Aadhar card, the 12 digit unique identification number that is issued by Indian Government has emerged as the mandatory documental proof in most of government and private departments. Almost all the departments are linked with Aadhar card of the individual. This card is been demanded as proof for legal and government formalities.
The Ministry of Labor and Employment as per its notification dated January 4 2017 made it mandatory to furnish the proof of Aadhar number to avail pension and other benefits for its existing members and pensioners under the EPS scheme. In case any member or the pensioner has not enrolled for Aadhar number can enroll it before January 31, 2017 at their nearest enrolment centre by producing the following documents:
- Identity certificate issued by the employer or the Employees’ Provident fund Organisation (EPFO) with Universal Account Number
- Aadhar enrolment ID of the member/pensioner or copy of the request made for Aadhaar enrolment
- A Copy of any of the following documents:
- Voter ID
- Pan card
- Driving License
- Certificate of the identity proof having photograph of the member issued by gazette officer or tehsildar on an official letterhead
- Any other document specified by EPF
All the above documents will be checked by an officer specially designed by EPFO through its field offices and their syndicate. In order to motivate people to apply for Aadhar card, a new decree from the Ministry of Labor and Employment states that you must possess Aadhar card as an identity proof to receive pension payments and benefits.
. Under EPS scheme government contributes 1.16% of an EPF subscriber’s salary, which is considered to be maximum of up to Rs. 6,500. The government does not contribute if the subscriber’s salary is over Rs. 15000 and as per the latest notification the amount will be credited only when Aadhar card number is shared with Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Until the subscriber enrolls for Aadhar, the government’s contribution under the scheme will be made only after the copy of request made for enrolment is submitted to the EPFO.
The benefits of Aadhar for EPS
As per notification of Ministry of Labor and Employment, the use of Aadhar as the identity document for delivery of services, benefits or subsidies simplifies the government’s delivery process and its brings clarity and efficiency and enables the beneficiaries to get their entitlements directly in a convenient and flawless manner and this identity document eliminates the need for producing multiple documents to prove one’s identity.
Also the amount of subsidy of any employee is disbursed via Aadhar card number
